However, Athena wasn’t interested in granting Carlos the opportunity to surrender.

As Carlos exited the office, he was promptly handcuffed by waiting police officers.

“Athena, you’re ruthless to the core. You’ll pay for this!” Carlos continued to shout and curse as he was led into the police car.

Gideon frowned, his gaze instinctively turning towards Athena.

Athena’s expression remained cold in the face of Carlos’s curses.

Gideon raised an eyebrow. “When did you set all this up? You didn’t inform me about any of it.”

“These events unfolded while I was overseeing the situation. Naturally, I had to handle it before passing it on to you, Mr. Hale,” Athena replied calmly.

“You didn’t give him a chance to surrender! You’re as ruthless as he said you are. We’ve known each other for five years, right? Yet, today I’ve come to realize just how ruthless you can be,” Gideon commented, his arms crossed. He had said it with a bit of sarcasm but also a hint of admiration.

“If I were to give someone like him a chance, I’d be dead as a doornail, just like he mentioned.” Athena paused. “Besides, they smashed my friend’s expensive car.”

“You have a vengeful streak. I like that,” Gideon remarked, offering her a thumbs-up.

“Mr. Hale, I’ll take care of the rest. Do you have any objections?” Athena asked, raising the list she had compiled.

Gideon had harbored doubts about Athena’s capabilities before arriving at the scene. However, after witnessing her actions, he was now utterly convinced.

“None at all,” Gideon replied, his confidence in her unwavering.

Athena motioned to a trembling man nearby. This was Matt Vega, the director of the personnel department. Seeing Carlos being apprehended had filled him and other senior leaders with trepidation, as if they were confronting a formidable adversary.

Under Carlos’s leadership, a culture of greed had pervaded the senior leadership, leading to embezzlement. Some had dipped into the coffers more than others. Now, they felt as though an invisible sword hung over their heads, ready to fall and sever their ties at any moment.

Matt approached Athena and Gideon with a nervous expression. “Miss Newton, Mr. Hale.”

“Inform everyone to gather for a meeting,” Athena instructed.

“Yes.”

Matt hurriedly used his phone to relay the news to others.

Standing there, Gideon pulled out his phone and clicked on Byron’s chat box, tempted to describe how charming and appealing Athena was. But he hesitated.

With those thoughts, he decided against typing anything.

Byron was about to get married. Gideon believed there was no need to tell him about another woman’s allure.

As he pocketed his phone, Gideon looked at Athena with a smile. “Miss Newton, it’s almost noon. What would you like to eat?”

“After the meeting, I’ll just have lunch in the cafeteria,” Athena replied.

Gideon was a bit surprised by her response. He had dated many women, some of whom had expensive tastes, preferring Michelin-starred restaurants or high-end establishments. This was the first time a woman had told him she planned to eat in the cafeteria.

Byron had been generous with Athena, providing her with money. This had led Gideon to initially assume she was a gold digger. However, he was realizing that wasn’t the case.

“What are you looking at?” Athena noticed Gideon’s inquisitive gaze and met it with a displeased look.

Gideon narrowed his eyes and offered an innocent smile. “I’m just amused. After knowing Byron for so long, I’ve finally discovered that he misunderstood a woman. Miss Newton, you’re a rare gem in this world.”
