Carlos was unsettled by Athena’s gaze, his thoughts consumed by her earlier words. The notion that a child could easily choke if he ate something by accident gnawed at his mind.

“If I reveal everything, will you release my son?” Carlos inquired, a note of desperation in his voice.

Athena replied with a sigh, “Mr. Butler, I understand your concern. I’m sorry to learn about your son. Once my workday is over, I’ll assist you in locating him. I’ll do my best to help you reunite with him.”

Originally, Carlos had intended to employ this question to accuse Athena of kidnapping. His phone was already recording the conversation. His plan was to make Athena admit her role in kidnapping his son. Even if he ultimately turned himself in, he could frame Athena for the crime.

However, Athena was far too cautious. She refused to admit to anything, rendering his accusation ineffective. Her carefully chosen words sidestepped the implication.

Glancing at the wall clock, Athena commented, “Lunchtime is approaching, and I can’t guarantee we’ll find your son before then.”

Carlos seethed with anger, but he gritted his teeth to maintain his composure. He grabbed a sheet of paper and pen, intending to write down the names of accomplices.

In his fury, his initial stroke tore the paper. Athena observed the scene with a composed demeanor.

Carlos began to write furiously, listing names and detailing their actions. Gideon, who had been silently watching, was taken aback. He had prepared to handle Carlos and gather information, yet Athena had expedited the process remarkably.

In a bold, risky move, Athena managed to execute a brilliant strategy. Carlos filled four entire sheets with names of those involved. The rot had spread from the head of the group to its members, with greed driving them to embezzle from the construction project’s second phase in a mere six months.

“That’s all I know,” Carlos uttered, his face drained of color as he put down the pen, his strength diminished.

Most of the names he wrote were connected to him, individuals who had showered him with money and gifts. Now, for the sake of his only child, he was forced to betray them.

“Well done,” Athena addressed Carlos. “Mr. Butler, please sign your name next to each individual’s name.”

Carlos trembled with anger, but his futile resistance was evident. He recognized that his child’s safety outweighed his personal battles with Athena.

Taking a deep breath, he began the agonizing task of signing beside each name. Finally, he completed the task.

Athena reviewed the paper meticulously before handing it to Gideon, who was usually a bystander in these matters. Looking at the document, Gideon frowned with displeasure. The company’s control had its limits, and these individuals had become too greedy outside their grasp. The amount they had embezzled was equivalent to a small company’s annual earnings.

Carlos anxiously awaited Gideon to finish reading, eager to learn about his son’s whereabouts. His phone rang unexpectedly, his wife on the other end.

He answered hastily, his voice tense, “Where’s our child? Have you found him?”

“Honey, our baby has been located! A kind person took him to the police station. I was so scared!” his wife exclaimed amidst tears.

Carlos breathed a sigh of relief, hanging up the phone before turning to Athena. “Miss Newton, I underestimated you.”

His wife’s call revealed that his son had been found and taken to the police station by a compassionate individual. This meant there was no evidence of Athena’s involvement in his son’s disappearance. His plan to accuse her of kidnapping was rendered moot.
