Carlos struggled to process the sudden news. He had to ask again, “Who’s in trouble?”

The newcomer rushed to explain, “Arlan. Someone exposed a multitude of his crimes on the internet – murder, arson, and various other offenses. The police are after him now. Carlos, what do we do? Will Arlan spill everything…?”

Carlos, losing his patience, abruptly kicked the man. The man only then realized that higher-ups from the head office were present and promptly fell silent.

“Mr. Butler, that’s enough,” Athena interjected, her tone firm. She had no time for their theatrics.

Carlos turned to Athena, suspicion evident in his gaze. “Could it be that you orchestrated Arlan’s downfall too, Miss Newton?”

Athena nonchalantly shrugged. “Who knows? Perhaps it’s karma catching up, and the wicked are facing their due course. I wonder if the police have apprehended him yet. I’m quite curious to confirm the details of what you just mentioned with Arlan.”

Carlos remained frozen, despite the autumn chill, his forehead beaded with sweat. He understood that if Arlan was caught, his own fate wouldn’t be faring much better.

He thought bitterly, “This cunning woman must have discovered everything long ago, quietly weaving a wide net. While we were dreaming of extorting millions, she was preparing a trap without room for escape. A lethal trap. Arlan’s crimes are all over the internet now. No matter how powerful his connections are, he can’t evade the death penalty. If he’s a benchmark, my fate won’t be pleasant either. But…”

Resolutely, Carlos ground his teeth and uttered, “Miss Newton, my son is innocent, just a child. Spare him, and I’ll surrender myself.”

Athena gestured for him to sit. “Mr. Butler, let’s discuss this calmly.”

Carlos’s legs felt like lead. “I’ve already agreed to turn myself in. What more does she want?”

However, with his son in Athena’s hands, he had no choice but to comply.

Sitting down, Athena retrieved a blank notebook and a pen from her bag and slid them toward Carlos. “My grandfather taught me that criminals rarely work alone. I’d rather not waste time investigating. Mr. Butler, please list those involved, one by one.”

Carlos was taken aback. “Miss Newton, I’m only aware of my own dealings…”

Before he could finish, Athena forcefully placed the pen before him, her silence asserting itself as a compelling command.

Although no words were spoken, Carlos felt a palpable threat looming over him.

“Mr. Hale, do you have any young nephews around seven or eight years old?” Athena suddenly turned her attention to Gideon, seemingly engaged in casual conversation.

Caught off guard by the question, Gideon replied nonchalantly, “I do have a couple of nephews around that age.”

“Do you know how delicate children that young can be? They’re prone to choking hazards while eating or drinking,” Athena continued, her gaze never leaving Gideon.

Carlos protested, “Miss Newton!”

Athena shifted her attention back to him, feigning confusion. “What’s the matter? I was just chatting with Mr. Hale. Take your time to think, Mr. Butler, and don’t mind us.”

Carlos dropped his pretenses entirely. “I can’t believe it. You’re beautiful on the outside, but you have the heart of a wicked witch! Athena, if you dare harm my son, I’ll never let you off!”

Leaning back in her chair, Athena regarded him calmly, maintaining her silence.
