While Gideon was studying abroad, his charming looks and flirtatious demeanor led him into numerous romantic entanglements, resulting in a slew of death threats. Gideon vividly recalled his first death threat, originating from an underground organization in Italy. The intimidation had left him sleepless for days until his family intervened and resolved the issue.
“Have you ever been threatened with death?” Gideon inquired.
Athena shot Gideon a look as if he were a fool and questioned, “Why would you ask that?”
“Your composure is striking. Aren’t you afraid?” Gideon continued probing.
“Will fear solve anything?” Athena returned the laptop to her bag. “Thanks for arranging the car, Mr. Hale. I’ll meet you downstairs at the hotel at seven o’clock tomorrow morning.”
With that, Athena left.
Subsequently, Byron dialed Gideon’s number.
“Mr. Crawford, where are you? I’m waiting for you to settle the bill,” Gideon playfully remarked.
“I’ve arranged some people for you,” Byron’s voice dripped with coldness. “They’ll handle those bullies.”
“Wow.” Gideon leaned back into the plush seat. “You’re unusually proactive this time. But I presume you’re not doing this for my sake, are you?”
“Get to the point if you have something to say,” Byron’s impatience was palpable.
“Byron, what’s your plan? Are you not going to let Athena go?” Gideon questioned.
“Correct,” Byron responded.
Initially meant as a jest, Gideon sat up abruptly upon hearing Byron’s serious answer.
“What did you just say?”
“I said you’re right. I won’t allow Athena to leave.”
Gideon felt a shiver down his spine.
“Are you losing your mind due to missing Freya?”
Byron had ceased contemplating the matter. Whether it was due to Freya or Athena, he had resolved not to release her.
“Byron, that’s not right. You can’t force Athena…”
“Mind your own business,” Byron interrupted Gideon before hanging up.
Byron didn’t consider himself as forcing Athena. He believed that her quality of life would drastically deteriorate without him. He feared Athena might endure severe hardships in this unforgiving world without his protection. He envisioned himself offering Athena everything except marriage, ensuring her safety and happiness.
Byron mulled over this repeatedly before contacting the individuals he had dispatched to Salin City.
“Don’t make things too easy for her. Allow Athena to encounter some challenges… Keep her under surveillance, and prevent her from getting hurt,” Byron ordered seriously.
The individuals Byron had enlisted were bewildered. They had assumed their purpose was to assist Athena and Gideon. Why, then, were they being told to orchestrate setbacks for Athena?
Byron’s train of thought eluded them entirely.
After ending the call, Byron felt somewhat relieved. He anticipated Athena would recognize his value after experiencing the difficulties of the world outside, further solidifying his importance in her life.

Byron deemed it necessary to locate a reputable sanatorium in Girard City. He had noticed Athena muttering about her grandmother in her dreams, suggesting she missed her dearly. Byron conceived the idea of bringing Athena’s grandmother over once all this was resolved, aiming to bring her happiness through this gesture.
By the time Byron returned to Girard City, it was already late in the night.
He arrived at the Ross family’s private hospital and entered the intensive care unit.
“Lola, you’re here!” Byron greeted as Lola rose hurriedly.
Heather lay on the hospital bed, a blood-soaked gauze on her forehead. She was awake and appeared to have no further complications.
