Athena’s heart froze as she realized that the direction indicated by the road sign was not leading to the airport. She quickly ended her call with Evie, using the excuse of a job to delay their conversation. Her instincts told her that something was terribly wrong.

Maintaining a calm exterior, Athena turned on her phone and checked the map to confirm that they were indeed heading in the wrong direction. She decided to play along for now and asked the driver to stop at a service area so she could use the restroom.

The driver’s demeanor abruptly shifted from innocent to hostile. He refused her request for a restroom stop, claiming there was no service area on the road. Athena adjusted her strategy, urging him to speed up and take her to the airport sooner.

As she pretended to edit a distress message, the driver suddenly slammed on the brakes, catching Athena off guard. She instinctively protected her belly and collided with the front seat, causing her intense pain and dizziness. Trying to maintain her composure, she attempted to send a distress message to the police using her phone.

Before she could make further progress, the driver forcibly opened her door, snatched her phone away, and smashed it on the ground. Fear gripped Athena as she realized she was in a dire situation.

As the driver mocked her for attempting to call the police, Athena knew she had to stay composed despite her fear. She attempted to reason with him, asking if this was about money and offering to give him more if he let her go. However, the driver’s anger and determination to help Arlan were evident.

Realizing she couldn’t buy her way out of this situation, Athena tried to gauge the driver’s intentions and find a way to survive. She asked if Arlan had sent him and attempted to strike a deal by asking to be taken to Arlan.

The driver’s anger and resentment towards Athena were clear as he accused her of causing trouble for others. He grabbed her hair and berated her for being heartless and immoral. Despite the pain, Athena struggled to keep her emotions in check.

Athena’s mind raced, and she concluded that the driver must be a trusted confidant of Arlan’s, given the circumstances. Desperate to ensure her safety, she decided to cooperate for now and asked the driver to take her to Arlan. She hoped that by facing Arlan, she might find a way to diffuse the situation and potentially escape.

The driver hesitated, seemingly surprised by her response. Athena’s composed demeanor caught him off guard. He mentioned his friends’ anticipation of seeing her, implying that they had sinister intentions. As the driver prepared to restart the car, Athena masked her fear and maintained her facade of impatience and indifference.

Athena’s thoughts raced as she considered her options and prayed that the distress message she had attempted to send had reached the police. In this dire situation, her determination and resourcefulness were her only allies.
