Gideon’s denial was immediate and instinctive. “Of course not. I just pity her…”

But Byron’s response was laced with disbelief. “Pity her? I’ve given her a good life, and I’ll provide her with even more. So why should she be pitied? What’s so pathetic about her?”

Realizing that he might have crossed a line, Gideon decided to drop the subject. He proceeded to inform Byron of the developments that had occurred on his end. “Athena is more capable than we thought,” Gideon added in the end.

Byron was taken aback by this revelation. Athena had managed to uncover and resolve all the hidden issues on her own, even recovering some of the embezzled money. After a pause, Gideon finally hung up the phone.

He took a deep breath, his thoughts drifting back to the intense sunlight and Athena’s gentle smile with her eyes half-closed.

“Gideon!”

He slapped his forehead, as if trying to snap himself back to reality.

“Stay focused!”

The driver efficiently drove Athena back to her hotel. She changed her phone and made a series of calls. Over the years, in addition to financial gains, Athena had cultivated valuable contacts through her association with Byron.

Living by the values her grandmother had instilled in her from childhood, Athena endeavored to help others whenever she could. As a result, she had made many friends in diverse fields. Among them was Logan Shawn, a brilliant teenage hacker. Athena had crossed paths with Logan when dealing with a cyber attack on Imbe Group’s official website. They had a shared background of difficult circumstances.

Both of Logan’s parents had abandoned him due to their gambling addiction. Raised by his grandfather, Logan displayed an innate talent for computer technology. However, he had strayed into illegal activities to cover his grandfather’s medical expenses and ended up in juvenile detention. During this time, Athena had funded his grandfather’s surgery and provided him with a letter of understanding from the company. When Logan was released, he viewed Athena as his elder sister and often assisted her with various tasks.

Juliana Zayla, who had pretended to be a tourist to rescue Carlos’ son, was another individual Athena had come to know. Although older than Athena, they shared a close friendship. Despite their age difference, Athena referred to her simply as Juliana.

Juliana had experienced a turbulent life. She had initially amassed significant wealth through various endeavors but was ultimately swindled by a man, leading to financial ruin and almost landing her in jail. During a period of financial hardship, she had worked as a nurse in a nursing home, where she cared for Athena’s grandmother, Romy. Juliana’s rough exterior concealed a kind-hearted nature, and she cared for Romy with utmost dedication.

Upon learning of Juliana’s struggles, Athena had offered her assistance. She helped Juliana recover a portion of her lost funds and ensured that the swindler faced legal consequences. Grateful for Athena’s support, Juliana reformed her life with her friend’s guidance, reconnecting with her old acquaintances.

The individual responsible for vandalizing the car that day was also enlisted by Juliana. Additionally, the surveillance footage from the road had been managed by Logan.

Athena called both of them, one after the other. Logan answered with warmth, saying, “Athena, you’re like a sister to me. There’s no need to thank me. Grandpa is always asking when you’ll have time to visit; he wants to prepare a big meal for you.”

Athena smiled in response. “I’ll be back in a few days. I’ll visit you as soon as I finish up my work.”

“Sounds good! And while you’re at it, you can help me deal with my parents’ meeting,” Logan quipped playfully.
